Family Fun with STEM in Clairemont!

Sparking a love for science in Clairemont!
STEM In Your Backyard is a monthly family friendly fair that pops up in neighborhoods all over the county!  This month, it’s in Clairemont.
FREE family fun with STEM on Saturday, November 18th  from 10am-1pm in the gym at Madison High School.
STEM In Your Backyard provides access to free, meaningful STEM experiences for the whole family by bringing the spark of science directly to communities throughout San Diego. Each STEM In Your Backyard is like a street fair: local companies, non-profits and community organizations set up exhibit booths with fun, hands-on STEM activities for all ages. Students will have the opportunity to interact with STEM professionals, providing students with positive and diverse STEM role models and changing the image of STEM. This STEM exposure encourages students to stay involved in STEM and to consider careers in science, technology, engineering or math.
Exhibitors for the November 18th event include:
  • Biocom Institute
  • Boy Scouts
  • Trisectors FTC Team
  • San Diego’s American Association for Laboratory Animal Science
  • SDSU Brain Development Labs
  • STEM Vanguards
  • Robolink
  • Gizmos & Gadgets
  • The Whole Child
  • San Diego Coastkeepers
  • Madison High School
In addition to exhibits focused on K-12 students, there will be an Educator Engagement workshop, presented by the Fleet Science Center. The Educator Professional workshop topic will be, An Artful Approach to Better Science. Increase student observation skills through a teaching strategy made popular in art galleries. Apply this teaching strategy across all disciplines, including in the science classroom.
STEM In Your Backyard is a collective effort between industry, business leaders, community organizations, academia, schools and school districts, and parents. Each STEM In Your Backyard incorporates a parent education component, teacher professional development, and year-round student engagement. Support of this program speaks to a commitment to accessible, quality STEM educational experiences for our communities and a devotion to the sustainability of San Diego County’s thriving STEM-based industries.
If your school club, company or non-profit organization would like to join the fun, there is no cost to exhibit. Just fill out the brief application at https://www.lovestemsd.org/stem-backyard-application.

The next STEM In Your Backyard  will be on December 2 at the Chula Vista Library from 1:00-4:00pm.
