In Defense of Learning

During PoPPCon 2019, participants had an opportunity to sit in on the Kearny Digital Media and Design Defenses of Learning. What they saw helped to reinforce the importance of reflection in the learning process. Throughout the fall semester, DMD seniors worked with a client, designed and created a media product, and wrote a defense reflection paper in which they make a claim for how they have practiced the Expected Schoolwide Learning Results ((ESLRs) - Critical Thinking, Innovative Thinking, Civic Engagement, the Production Process, all leading to College and Career Readiness)) in their academic and daily experiences. In the Defense, they show connections between the ESLRs and how they have seen growth in these areas through the project learning outcomes. PoPPCon 2019 participants got to see just how valuable this Defense can be as students reflect on the impact of connecting their learning to real-world skills and habits of mind.
