FIRST® LEGO® League Robotics

Marston Middle School Robotics students have been launched into space during the 2018 FIRST® LEGO® League season where they’ve had to explore, challenge, and innovate through an extensive research project and robot game centered on the theme of long term space travel. Students must research a real-world problem and either improve upon a current solution or invent an entirely new solution. They must also build and program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS® EV3 to complete up to fifteen challenges in a robot game that lasts only 2 . minutes. Marston Robotics students split up into eight different teams and competed against each other for two spots at a Qualifying Tournament at High Tech High on Sunday, November 11th, 2018. Marston’s Robotics teams are called the Clairemonsters and represented well at the tournament, with both teams bringing home a trophy. Out of 24 teams, Clairemonster I brought home a First Place Trophy for their demonstration of the FIRST® Core Values and are moving on to the SoCal Championship at Legoland on December 9th. Clairemonster II impressed the judges with their research project on the social implications of long term space travel and brought home a Second Place trophy for their Huggable Hologram. Marston is incredibly proud of these two all-girl teams and all of their accomplishments. LEGOLAND...here we come!
