Prior to “Election Day” at Marston, which was held in advance of actual Election Day on November 6, 2018, Ms. Thomas prepared students through projects that required students to research candidates and issues. Students made campaign posters, decorated the polling center, and had a real-life experience that will stay in the memories of Marston students. Marston Mocks!
History-social science teacher Renee Thomas brought a real simulation of the democratic process to Marston Middle School students in the form of a mock election. Ms. Thomas’s students set up a polling site and included student poll workers, poll booths, a ballot box, and tables where students could examine their ballot books one last time. Using the Secretary of State’s “California Student Mock Election” ballot and “I Voted” stickers made the experience that much more authentic for Marston students.
