Students at Serra High School are using AVID Strategies to organize their learning across their classes! When you walk into math classes on campus you will see and hear - - - lots of students having conversations, reading problems, finding and creating evidence, and writing Cornell Notes. Math students at Serra High School can not only do math calculations, they can talk and write about how they arrived at their answers and explain their reasoning! At the end of the period, they summarize their learning at the bottom of their notes. No rote memorization for Conquistadors! Supportive sentence frames help them talk about their claims, evidence, and reasoning. Serra students are getting a deep understanding of math and integrating literacy along the way!
