Kaiser Helps Increase Activity Time
Kaiser, along with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, has provided grant funding improving physical activity in our elementary and middle schools for the 2018-19 school year. The project includes 11 target schools who are enrolled in the Alliance for a Healthier Generation cohort. Baker, Fletcher and Walker Elementary schools are already up and running, additionally Wangenheim Middle, Chollas Meade and Balboa Elementary are set to begin in late October, early November. We will bring more schools online after the first of the year. Each school will receive the Increased Movement and Physical Activity Class Time Program (IMPACT), equipment, support from a retired teacher and district resource teacher. The IMPACT program is a twenty minute station based physical activity program that incorporates the 5 components of physical fitness. This program was developed in the district and has expanded to include high school students. Kearny High School students in Daina Weber (English), Jennifer Ogo (Biology) and CorrieAnne Burgess (GIS) are redesigning the program to update the IMPACT activity cards and incorporate their knowledge providing extended learning for teachers and students in the academic knowledge related to physical activity.
