Thank you Parents and Department of Defense - Project Lead the Way at Miller Elementary School

Students at Miller Elementary School in Tierrasanta are engaged with Project Lead The Way and the Design Process. TK-5th grade teachers have been undergoing training in PLTW Launch program and the NGSS ( Next Generation Science Standards. This training has empowered Miller’s Teachers to take STEAM to a whole new level at their school. PLTW has brought a hands on learning approach to Miller, engaging teachers, students and community member. Teachers have been planning and will soon be co-teaching lessons together. Parents and community members have been volunteering in classrooms, organizing supplies, speaking to students about their STEAM professions and working hand in hand with students. Students are excited to begin their learning about the Science of Flight, Energy and Collisions and Robotics. One great thing about STEAM and PLTW is collaboration. Students work together asking questions about real world and to solve problems. As pat of this work they will create and revise models using the engineering design process. Miller is fostering a learning environment that encourages teachers and students to take chances and solve problems together. Miller is one of several schools who are implementing PLTW Launch through a Department of Defense grant. Elementary schools included in this grant include: Cabrillo, Hancock, Miramar Ranch, Perry and Vista Grande. Miller will be hosting a 4th and 5th grade teacher VEX robotics training and collaboration for all schools later in October. This training is designed to empower teachers as they support students on their journey to become future leaders in STEAM.
