Elementary principals, educators, and students joined industry partners for Future for Learning - Re-Envisioning Elementary Education experience with Dr. Mitchel Resnick on April 8th. The event was made possible by the Moxie Foundation and LEGO Education.
Dr. Resnick is a LEGO Papert Professor of Learning Research at the MIT Media Lab and develops new technologies and activities to engage children in learning experiences. His lifelong Kindergarten research group develops the Scratch programming software and online community. The group also collaborates with LEGO Education on the development of new educational ideas and products.
Dr. Resnick led a presentation describing how projects, passion, peers, and play can work together to create meaningful learning opportunities for students. He also introduced Scratch, which is a free programming language and online community where students can create interactive stories, games, and animations. Scratch helps young people learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively which are all 21st century skills.
Participants explored how passion, play, peers, and projects can help us re-envision the elementary experience for students. We walked away with desired states and paths to get there with collaboration from industry, students and educators!
