After two years of planning and designing, a new community mural went up on the front entry to Linda Vista STEAM Magnet School! The art piece is the result of the collaboration between the school, Bayside Community Center, donors and artist Gloria Favela Rocha.
The mural process began with a call for Linda Vista students to create images that reflected their learning community. Once designs were chosen, it was then the task of muralist Rocha to interpret the student designs into a cohesive image to serve as both a traffic-calming element to the busy intersection and a beautifying component in the neighborhood. In its original state, the mural was envisioned to be part of the intersection, but as the project evolved the mural became part of the school’s front façade celebrating the spirit of STEAM.
The actual painting took a week to complete and can be viewed near the corner of Ulric and Osler Streets. Funds to create the mural were received from large and small donations through Bayside Community Center.
