Self Care at OB Elementary

On May 2nd, the Children and Youth in Transition Team (CYT) presented a trauma informed practices presentation to Ocean Beach Elementary staff. The professional development training “Self-Care for the Educator” is one of a series of four presentations that the CYT department offers. From the training participants learn the ABC's of self-care, the definitions and signs of compassion fatigue and take a self-assessment regarding their current levels of wellness. Wellness supports and resources to enhance long and short-term self-care are discussed. One participant commented, he felt this was an "essential training" for every school site. Over twenty-five schools in San Diego Unified School District have participated in the professional development series in the 18-19 school year thus far. Interested schools should contact the CYT department to sign up for trainings. The remaining trauma informed practices presentations include: "Trauma and the Brain," “The Trauma Informed School Site,” and “Mindup Curriculum Implementation.” The professional development trainings are available throughout the 18-19 school year and for the 19-20 school year.
